Now the company is increasing its commitment to New York with a $200,000 contribution for hurricane relief.

Entergy's utility service territory along the Gulf Coast is frequently struck by hurricanes. "We at Entergy understand how devastating storms can be," said Rick Smith, president of Entergy Wholesale Commodities. "We want to help New Yorkers get back on their feet by providing support in any way we can, including this contribution."

Entergy's total $200,000 contribution includes $150,000 to the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City and $50,000 to the American Red Cross Metro New York North Chapter.

The Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City established the Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund to accept donations to purchase immediate aid, including food, water and personal supplies, as well as meet long-term needs.

The American Red Cross Metro New York North Chapter covers Westchester, Putnam and surrounding counties. Donations will help the Red Cross to continue providing shelter, food, water, cleaning supplies, and assistance with service referrals for families affected by the storm.

"In addition to our experience with hurricanes in the South," said Smith, "two of our nuclear power plants and approximately 2,000 of our employees are located in New York State. We extend this assistance to further demonstrate our commitment to the communities in which we operate."

Entergy Corporation is an integrated energy company engaged primarily in electric power production and retail distribution operations. Entergy owns and operates power plants with approximately 30,000 megawatts of electric generating capacity, including more than 10,000 megawatts of nuclear power, making it one of the nation's leading nuclear generators. Entergy delivers electricity to 2.8 million utility customers in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. Entergy has annual revenues of more than $11 billion and approximately 15,000 employees.
