General Atlantic Announces Promotions

GREENWICH, Conn., Dec. 6, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- General Atlantic LLC (GA), a leading global growth equity firm, today announced the promotions of Nick Nash, Eduardo Samara and Graves Tompkins to principal. Mr. Nash co-launched the firm's Singapore office, targeting the high growth economies of Southeast Asia. Based in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Mr. Samara is focused on investment opportunities in the Latin America region. Mr. Tompkins is responsible for GA's global capital raising and the firm's government relations effort.

GA's team of 80 investment professionals provides global insight and regional expertise from ten offices in the U.S., Europe, Asia and Latin America. Mr. Nash first joined GA in 2002 and then rejoined the firm after completing his MBA in 2007.  He has played a leadership role in GA's Business Services sector investment efforts, and in 2011 he moved to Singapore to help launch GA's investment effort for Southeast Asia. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Nash was with McKinsey & Company. Mr. Nash received an A.B. in Chemistry and Physics, magna cum laude, from Harvard University and an MBA from Stanford University's Graduate School of Business, where he was an Arjay Miller Scholar and co-led the school's exchange program with Tsinghua University in Beijing. Mr. Nash is a member of the board of directors of the New York Private Equity Network (NYPEN) and the Singapore Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (SVCA).

Mr. Samara joined General Atlantic in 2010 and focuses on investments in a variety of industries in Latin America, where GA has invested nearly $1.5 billion in 9 investments since 2000. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Linx S.A.. Prior to joining General Atlantic, Mr. Samara worked for GP Investments where he focused on buyout opportunities across different sectors in Brazil. Previously Mr. Samara was an investment banker at JPMorgan in Sao Paulo and New York focused on Latin America. He received his B.A. in Economics from Universidade de Sao Paulo.

Prior to joining GA in 2007, Mr. Tompkins worked at McKinsey & Co. and in the Merchant Banking Division at Goldman Sachs & Co., where he focused on principal investments across a broad range of sectors. Mr. Tompkins earned an MBA from the Harvard Business School, where he graduated with high honors, and an MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School. Mr. Tompkins graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University, where he earned an A.B. in Politics. Mr. Tompkins is a term member at the Council on Foreign Relations.
