TOANO, Va., July 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Lumber
Liquidators (NYSE: LL), the largest specialty retailer of hardwood
flooring in North America, has
helped create a safe environment for young women to build life
skills through a recent flooring donation to The Highsteppers Drill
Team.
The Highsteppers Drill Team is a Cincinnati-based nonprofit youth dance
organization that began in 1999. The organization uses the art of
dance and drill as unique tools to help inspire leadership,
self-discipline and confidence in girls. The organization has a
strong focus on academics and requires a minimum 2.0 GPA and weekly
study and tutor sessions for participating youth. While this is the
requirement, the current squad holds a 3.5 GPA average.
After 14 years of practicing at various recreation centers, The
Highsteppers Drill Team was ready to move into their own space and
needed flooring. Lumber Liquidators "stepped up" by donating a Dura
Dance underlayment flooring system for the new facility. Dura Dance
is a unique synthetic rubber underlayment that, together with a
high-quality hardwood floor, absorbs energy and provides an impact
dampening effect perfect for dancers.
"The young ladies at Highsteppers are confronted with tough
issues everyday, but through dance we are able to help them
overcome adversity and uncover their talents and capabilities,"
said Kelli Harmon-Dobson, Founder
and Director of The Highsteppers Drill Team. "It's donations like
Lumber Liquidators' that helped us open our own studio so we could
continue to provide young women in the community with a place to
dance and develop."
The donation is part of Lumber Liquidators' philanthropic
program, Lay It Forward. It is designed to support organizations
that will benefit generations to come, a vision that also drives
the enduring quality of Lumber Liquidators' products. Installing a
hardwood floor is an investment by homeowners – it lasts for years
and grows in character as an element of a home's beauty. By
sustaining the Lay It Forward program now, Lumber Liquidators
believes its investment will have a similar and lasting impact.
Robert M. Lynch, President and
Chief Executive Officer of Lumber Liquidators, remarked, "We
support Highsteppers' commitment to developing young women and the
community they serve."
