GRENADA, West Indies, Jan. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 92% of doctors and public health specialists responding to the third "One World, One Health, One Medicine" poll from St. George's University recommend that their patients get a flu vaccine, agreeing with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's recommendations and believe it will give them a better chance of fighting off the flu this year.

The international University recently polled its alumni from the School of Medicine in response to a spate of recent news reports on this year's flu vaccine and its reported ineffectiveness. Only 7% of those polled felt that the flu vaccine would not be effective against the strains of influenza circulating this year.

Here are the results:

  • Almost 85% of doctors said that they urge their family to get a flu vaccine as "the best way to protect yourself against the flu is to get vaccinated."
  • More than 53% of doctors said that their employer required them to get vaccinated during the flu season.
  • Almost 39% of doctors said that as a medical professional they get vaccinated during the flu season although their employer does not require it.
  • More than 54% of doctors said that their patients expect them to "practice what they preach" and get a flu shot.
