MINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- TE
Connectivity (TE), a world leader in connectivity, today announced
that major auto manufacturers in North
America are using TE's FlexWave Prism and FlexWave Spectrum
distributed antenna systems (DAS) to boost staff productivity with
in-building mobile services. TE's DAS solutions enable seamless
mobile communications for tens of thousands of employees and
managers at Ford, General Motors, Hyundai, and Toyota plants and
offices throughout the United
States, Canada, and
Mexico.
Auto manufacturing plants present unique challenges for
mobile communications. Featuring long assembly lines, 24x7
operations, and plasma welders that can disrupt RF signals, these
plants require a flexible portfolio of DAS products to deliver
clear and consistent mobile coverage and capacity. In addition,
auto plants are part of the bring your own device (BYOD) trend, so
a DAS must support a range of commercial cellular frequencies
ranging from 700 MHz to 2100 MHz, and must offer MIMO (multi input
multi output) as well as SISO (single input single output)
technologies to deliver the required network capacity.
TE's FlexWave Prism and FlexWave Spectrum DAS solutions
are ideal in auto plants for a number of reasons:
- Multi-frequency, multi-operator capabilities support all
major mobile operators and frequencies with a single set of
electronics.
- TE DAS support MIMO technology with a single cabling
infrastructure.
- All-digital DAS uses fiber and thin coaxial cabling
allowing cabling to be routed inside conduit.
- TE's high-power and low-power DAS amplifier units address
the diverse architecture of auto plants, including large, open
areas as well as "buildings within buildings" such as paint
booths.
- TE's CPRI digital interface unit (CDIU) saves up to 40%
of equipment space in DAS head-ends when space is at a premium in
plants and offices.
In addition to manufacturing plants in Alabama, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Ontario and Mexico, TE DAS delivers mobile services inside
non-manufacturing facilities such as GM's Warren, Michigan technical center and its
Detroit world
headquarters.
"Keeping plants and offices running smoothly requires
clear, immediate communications among hundreds or thousands of
employees," said Peter Wraight,
president of TE's Wireless business unit. "TE's distributed antenna
systems adapt easily to any plant environment, and cost-effectively
deliver the connectivity that makes manufacturing hum."
