MELVILLE, N.Y., May 22, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Henry Schein,
Inc. (NASDAQ: HSIC), the world's largest provider of health
care products and services to office-based dental, animal health
and medical practitioners, announced today that Dr. Nantarika
Chansue, a noted turtle and tortoise veterinarian, is the
recipient of the third annual Henry Schein Cares International
Veterinary Community Service Award. The award was presented at
the recent Gala Dinner of the 2015 World Small Animal Veterinary
Association World Congress (WSAVA 2015), held in Bangkok, Thailand. Henry Schein Cares is the
global corporate social responsibility program of Henry Schein.
The Henry Schein Cares International Veterinary Community
Service Award honors exceptional acts of valor and commitment
performed by veterinarians in the face of adversity and in service
to the veterinary community and beyond. Dr. Chansue was honored for
improving the lives of autistic, disabled and disadvantaged
children, and for promoting animal health, conservation and welfare
by fostering therapeutic interaction between children and rescued
animals. These animals have been abandoned or affected by
natural disasters, particularly the sea turtles and tortoises, many
species of which are endangered throughout Southeast Asia.
Dr. Chansue, who specializes in aquatic animal medicine,
veterinary forensics and aquarium management, currently serves as
the Director of the Veterinary Medical Aquatic Animal Research
Center within the Faculty of Veterinary Science at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok. Dr. Nigel Nichols, Vice
President, International Animal Health Group – APAC Region,
Henry Schein, presented the award to
Dr. Chansue.
"Henry Schein is proud to
continue the tradition at WSAVA of highlighting extraordinary
veterinarians who work tirelessly to ensure the health and
well-being of the world's animals," said Dr. Nichols. "Each year, we spotlight the
achievements of veterinarians such as Dr. Chansue, who is a
deserving recipient of this award. Dr. Chansue's many academic and
professional achievements underscore her dedication to the
veterinary community and her passion to provide care."
In addition to a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree, Dr.
Chansue has obtained eight other academic degrees, including
doctorates in Marine Science and Educational Administration and
four master's degrees. Dr. Chansue is the author of more than 100
publications, including 10 books. Among her many honors, she is the
recipient of the "Thailand Outstanding Woman Award 2014." Dr.
Chansue also serves as a consultant to the Thai government's
Ministry of Environment and Natural Sciences and the Department of
Marine and Coastal Resources. She is the Co-President of the Turtle
Conservation Club, Thailand; Vice
President of the Art for All Foundation and Center, which conducts
art programs for disadvantaged children and children with
disabilities in Thailand; and
founder of Return Turtle Lives to Nature, a project which has
rescued more than 25,000 turtles from Thai Buddhist temple
ponds.
"I am truly honored to receive this wonderful award, which
shines an important light on the work of veterinarians," said Dr.
Chansue. "Conservation, sustainability and veterinary care are key
to promoting the continued beauty and diversity of life in our
oceans, and the added benefit of helping children through therapy
with animals that have been recovered from natural disasters or
abandoned by their owners is priceless. I thank Henry Schein for recognizing the importance of
this work."
The Henry Schein Cares International Veterinary Community
Service Award was created in 2013 by Dr. Nichols, and Dr. John Maclachlan,
Past President of the New Zealand Veterinary Association.
Henry Schein recognizes the WSAVA
annual conference as a particularly suitable forum to present this
award by showcasing to the global veterinary community the
achievements of veterinarians in regional areas.
