LOS ANGELES, Aug. 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- In celebration of
quite possibly the finest air-cooled vehicle ever produced,
Southern California-based Singer
Vehicle Design (SVD) will be making every effort to demonstrate
exactly why it believes the Porsche 911 deserves to be recognized
and recreated in a bespoke manner that hails to the delight and
extravagance of all possibilities, especially when answering the
questions "what if" and "what more." Bringing together the ultimate
U.S. debut during the 2015 Monterey Car Week, SVD will highlight
two of its most current customer restorations that blend tradition
with modernity within a Porsche 964 chassis -- each boasting an
all-new 4.0-liter, 6-speed, 390hp engine, developed exclusively for
Singer's customers by famed Ed Pink Racing Engines (EPRE). With
displays at the 24th annual Gordon
McCall's Motorworks Revival at the Monterey Jet Center on
Wednesday, August 12th, and later in
the week at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering at the Quail Lodge
and Golf Club on Friday, August 14th,
aficionados can view the first U.S. customer-owned Targa
restoration by Singer, along with the first Singer-optimized 911
coupe to enjoy the marvel of Ed
Pink's 4.0-liter extravagance.

Quickly gaining global recognition for the outstanding
handcraftsmanship and near perfection of every element contained in
the bespoke Porsche 911s optimized by SVD, the company is thrilled
to extend its California heritage
alongside the ultimate in automotive design, engineering and
industry camaraderie. According to founder and creator of Singer
Vehicle Design, Rob Dickinson,
there's not a grander spot to showcase the pinnacle of such
creativity. "We look forward to joining the ranks of the very best
during this special week on the Monterey
Peninsula," said Dickinson. "We've been fortunate enough to
develop a reputation that Singer stands for something very special,
and by having the opportunity to share our abilities within this
equally special arena reinforces our entree within the classic car
spectrum."
In an effort to continuously provide its customers with
increasingly updated technology and performance systems, Dickinson
noted that the company will also be highlighting a display of an
entirely new composite brake package, manufactured exclusively for
Singer Vehicle Design by WP Pro -
http://www.wpprobrakes.com/performance/about-us, and containing
specially formulated low-dust brake pads by Pagid. The overall
system contains a front 322mm x 32mm carbon ceramic rotor with hard
anodized aluminum hat, and rear 295mm x 28mm carbon ceramic rotor
with hard anodized aluminum hat. Benefits of the package to any
vehicles restored by Singer will include:
- 42% weight savings in brake system un-sprung mass
- Large reduction in brake dust
- Increase friction coefficient at higher temperatures
- Increased service life of brake rotors
- Composite brake system designed for SVD to fit under standard
Porsche (Brembo) brake calipers
Each customer vehicle restored by Singer is reborn out of a
collaborative effort between the customer and Singer Vehicle
Design, however, each special vehicle begins as a Porsche 911 and
always remains a Porsche 911. It should be noted that Singer does
not design, manufacture, remanufacture, create or sell automobiles.
Rather, Singer restores, tunes, modifies and customizes existing
Porsche® automobiles for its customers. Singer's bespoke services
are provided solely by Singer. Singer is not sponsored, approved,
endorsed by nor, in any way, associated or affiliated with Porsche
Cars North America, Inc., or Dr. Ing. h.c.F. Porsche, AG
(www.porsche.com).
Singer's philosophy – creating one-of-a-kind masterpieces to
each customer's desires within perfectly optimized air-cooled
Porsche 911s – continues to move forward with each new bespoke
restoration. With limited availability and an 8-10 month
restoration cycle, vehicles have more recently been commissioned by
Porsche owners in Hong Kong,
Moscow, Canada, England, Germany, New
Zealand, Norway and the
UK.
4.0-liter technology by Ed Pink Racing Engine
Technology
In response to Singer's customers requesting "even more," the
company has partnered with Ed Pink Racing Engines (EPRE), known
worldwide to have produced the best racing engine and components in
the industry since 1965. "The folks at Ed Pink Racing Engines have
created a very docile engine that has been honed and improved upon,
with a very sophisticated engine management system – one that is
completely balanced from a weight ratio perspective, yet providing
tremendous torque – truly an absolutely, wonderfully sweet engine.
Even the intake manifold becomes a piece of fine jewelry."
964 Targa Model –
"Cupertino"
Because Singer continues to respond to the desires of its
customers, the company has been challenged to perform its unique
services on a new canvas - Targa. The "Cupertino" car, referred to for its final
destination following the Monterey Car Week, is the first Targa
that a U.S. client has presented to Singer to restore and
reimagine, celebrating the classic Targa configuration launched in
1965 with the iconic polished metal 'Targa Hoop.' According to
Dickinson, in Singer's world this is beautifully rendered in
Singer's own nickel-plate, which is a special recipe created by
Dickinson and adds a warm golden hue to the nickel coloring. For

Upon customer request, this particular Targa has been restored
with both a collapsible soft roof and a one-piece carbon fiber top.
The exterior color of this Targa example is 'Casablanca Beige,'
reminiscent of the genuine early 1980s 930 turbo color, while the
interior is fashioned in 'Tobacco Brown' leather weave with
grommets, including sports seats and folding rear seats –
suggesting more of a 'touring' style vehicle. Additionally, the
highly specialized vehicle has Ohlins suspension; Fuchs-style
wheels have a white nickel finish on the barrels with closed
lugnuts and black painted wheel centers.
Dickinson also notes a bit of whimsical "insider" neurosis as a
special Singer touch, included within the Targa – rendering the
Targa hoop with only two air filtering louvers rather than 3
louvres -- a little touch that's slightly different from 1965 and
as Dickinson points out, "one thing not noticed by many, but
noticed by few."
'Chicago' – the first
4.0-liter 911 coupe modified by SVD
The 'Battleship Grey Dark' customer-owned Porsche 911 coupe,
recently restored by Singer and residing in Chicago, is an example of light-weight
construction with comfort, durability and high performance stemming
from a 4.0-liter Ed Pink Racing Engine-developed engine, made
specifically for Singer's customer. With 'Saddle Tan' leather weave
and grommets on the one-piece track seats, this highly specified
car has a harness bar and roll hoop, allowing for perfect track
performance as well as utilization as a daily driver. Special
features include the 6-speed transmission; an integrated roll bar;
Ohlins suspension system; external fuel and oil cap lids; track
seats; a big brake package and stereo upgrade. High resolution

Details such as the unique nickel-plating on the fuel and oil
caps, side mirrors and the Targa bar strip (a traditional plating
with a golden warm hue which Dickinson himself developed), bring
subtle differences that lend to the exclusivity of a vehicle
restored by Singer. "For us, it's those nuances, personified by our
attention to detail that matter most," said Dickinson, "… because
our mantra remains that everything is important."
