LONDON--U.K. gas and electricity market regulator, Ofgem, said
Friday it has started an investigation into SSE PLC (SSE.LN)
following concerns about its approach to switching customers to
pre-payment meter tariffs.
The regulator said it plans to examine whether SSE breached its
standards of conduct aimed at ensuring suppliers treat customers
fairly. It will also investigate whether the supplier breached
license conditions which require them to provide appropriate
information, and ensure consumers' ability to pay when suggesting
alternative payment methods.
Ofgem didn't give any time scale for the investigation, but said
this doesn't imply that it has made any findings about
non-compliance.
